Terms of Use
Casewire: True Crime Cases
These Terms of Use govern your use of Casewire: True Crime Cases ("the app"), published by Peidus Products OÜ. By downloading or using the app, you agree to these terms.
Licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, subject to these terms and the rules of the app store you downloaded it from.
What Casewire is
Casewire is a reader for published journalism about real criminal cases. It gathers reporting from news outlets, court and public records, and documentary video, groups it by case, and shows you what changed. It also offers a Nightstand of long-form listening.
Casewire is not a newsroom and does not conduct investigations. Every substantive statement in the app belongs to the outlet that published it, is attributed to that outlet, and links back to the original. Headlines are shown as the publisher wrote them.
Free version
A large part of the app is free and stays free: the latest development on every case, every case that is currently developing or in the news in full, the whole Nightstand catalogue, and breaking alerts on the case you follow. The free tier follows one case. The app contains no advertising. We may change the limits or features of the free tier at any time.
Court documents and public records surfaced by the app are never placed behind the subscription. Public records are public.
Subscriptions
- The app offers an optional premium upgrade as an auto-renewing subscription: an Annual plan at $49.99 per year, which includes a 7-day free trial, and a Monthly plan at $7.99 per month, which does not include a trial. Prices shown in the app are set by the App Store or Google Play for your region and may differ from these amounts.
- Premium unlocks the full case file on archived cases, unlimited follows, and alerts on every meaningful update rather than only the major ones.
- Payment is charged to your Apple App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel them in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
- Any free-trial period is forfeited if you purchase a subscription before it ends. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable; refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies.
- You can restore an eligible subscription on a new device via the "Restore purchases" option in the app.
Sourcing and verification
Casewire labels how well supported a report is — for example whether it is corroborated by several outlets, single-sourced, still developing, an unverified claim, disputed, fact-checked, or drawn from social media. These labels describe the state of the reporting, not our own verification. Casewire does not independently verify anything; it counts outlets and reports fact-check status. Nothing in the app is ever marked "verified", because that is a claim we have not earned.
Material drawn from social media is labelled as such and is claim surveillance, not a source of fact. Coverage collected automatically may be incomplete, may lag events, and may carry the publication date the outlet stamped rather than the date something happened.
Legal status and the presumption of innocence
Every person is presumed innocent unless and until convicted by a court. Casewire displays the legal posture of a case prominently and without softening it — whether nobody has been charged, whether a defendant is charged but not convicted, whether there was an acquittal, or whether a conviction stands.
An arrest, a charge, a suspicion reported by a newsroom, or the appearance of somebody's name in coverage is not a finding of guilt, and nothing in the app should be read as one. The app deliberately does not lead a case with the face of a person who has not been convicted.
Corrections and removal requests
If you are named in coverage the app surfaces, or you represent someone who is, and you believe the material is inaccurate, out of date, or should not be carried, write to support@peidusproducts.com. Tell us the case, the item, and what is wrong.
We will review it and, where warranted, correct the record, update a legal posture, or remove the item or the case from the app. Where the underlying article belongs to a publisher, we can remove our link and our summary of it; we cannot alter or unpublish their reporting, and you may need to approach them as well. We do not charge for this and you do not need a lawyer to ask.
Third-party video and links
Video plays through YouTube's official embedded player. Films, documentaries and news video belong to the channels that published them and are presented as theirs, with the publisher credited. We do not download, re-host, or strip advertising from anyone's video, and we do not offer an audio-only or background mode for it. A publisher may disable embedding at any time, in which case the film will not play inside the app; that is their right, not a fault.
Links to source articles open the publisher's own page. We are not responsible for the content, availability, or practices of third-party sites and services.
Acceptable use
You agree not to copy, modify, reverse-engineer, or redistribute the app except as permitted by law, and not to circumvent its usage limits, security, or payment mechanisms. You further agree not to use the app, or material obtained through it, to harass, threaten, stalk, dox, or intimidate any person, or to interfere with any investigation or legal proceeding.
Availability
The app is available in most countries except where we have chosen not to distribute it. Which cases appear, and how long they remain, is an editorial decision that may change at any time. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the app or any feature at any time.
No legal or investigative advice
Casewire is for information and general interest. It does not provide legal advice, and it is not a tool for conducting or assisting an investigation. If you have information about a crime, contact the relevant law-enforcement agency; do not rely on this app to pass it on. If you need advice about your own legal position, consult a qualified lawyer in your jurisdiction.
No warranty
The app is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind to the extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, nor that the reporting it collects is complete, current, or accurate — that reporting is the publishers' work, and we present it as theirs.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the app, or from any decision taken in reliance on material the app surfaces.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Estonia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
